Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored a brisk half-century on debut as Bangladesh registered a crushing eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the rain-interrupted first of the five-matchT20I series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.

Although the match stopped twice after 2.1 and 7.2 overs respectively, it didn鈥檛 see any curtailment of overs.

Tanzid remained unbeaten on 67 off 47 balls lacing eight boundaries and two maximums to reach 126-2 in 15.2 overs, in reply to 124 all out by Zimbabwe. Tawhid Hridoy stood on a quickfire 33 off 18 balls.

Blessing Muzarabani and Luke Jongwe took one wicket apiece for the visitors.

Earlier, a record stand by Clive Madande and Wellington Masakadza helped Zimbabwe recover from a disastrous situation.

The visitors were 41-7 before the duo put on 75 runs together for Zimbabwe's highest eighth-wicket partnership.

Taskin bowled Madande for 43 off 39 balls to break the stand, but Masakadza (34) stayed at the crease until he was run out on the last ball of the innings.

Despite an easy chase, Bangladesh couldn鈥檛 make a sound start as they lost opener Liton Das for one after Muzarabani rattled his stumps in the second delivery of the second over.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid then added聽 47 runs for the second wicket to take the Tigers out of danger, which also took them beyond the 50-run mark.

However, Shanto failed to continue the momentum as Jongwe had him for 21 off 24 balls soon after the second spell of rain, leaving the Tigers to 57-2 in 9.2 overs.

Tanzid who survived two dropped catches on one and three runs respectively by Muzarabani then led the charge to earn his maiden T20I fifty off 36 balls hitting six fours and two maximums.聽聽

Earlier, put into bat first, Zimbabwe lost Craig Ervine for a duck in the second over.

Mohammad Saifuddin then forced debutant fellow opener Joylord Gumbie (17) to give a catch to Taskin at fine leg.

Mahedi Hasan's next over saw Brian Bennett run out for 16 and skipper Sikandar Raza suffered a first-ball duck off consecutive deliveries.

Taskin also sent back Sean Williams and Ryan Burl for nought off back-to-back deliveries in the following over, and Saifuddin dismissed Luke Jongwe for two.

Madande was given leg-before off Saifuddin on 28 but the decision was reversed after review.

The second match of the series will be held at the same venue May 5.
