
Subroto Boniface Gomes was ordained as the auxiliary bishop of archdiocese of Dhaka amid a colourful reception programme held on Friday.
Chairman of the Episcopal Commission and Archbishop of Dhaka Bejoy Nicephorus D鈥機ruze led the reception in the capital鈥檚 Ramna Cathedral, said a press release.
Religious affairs minister Md Faridul Haque Khan, Cardinal Patrick D鈥橰ozario CSC and the Vatican鈥檚 ambassador to Bangladesh Kevin Randall, among others, were present at the event.
Archbishop of Dhaka Bejoy said that archdiocese of Dhaka was very old and important one.
Earlier, an application was sent to Vatican City seeking an auxiliary bishop to assist the archbishop.
Based on the appeal, Pope Francis appointed Subroto Boniface Gomes in February, the release said.
Subroto Boniface Gomes was born on November 19, 1962, in Rangamatia in the archdiocese of Dhaka.
He attended the Intermediate Seminary of Saint Joseph in Dhaka, and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from Notre Dame College in Dhaka.
He studied philosophy in Bangalore and theology in Dhaka. He obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas and was ordained a priest on April 16, 1990, for the clergy of Dhaka.
