Several hundred garment workers on Saturday blocked busy Airport Road at Banani, protesting at the closure of their factory without any prior notice.

Witnesses said that at least 300 workers of Apparels Industry Ltd at Banani blocked the road in front of Sainik Club at about 8:30am, suspending traffic movement there for over an hour.


Workers said that the factory management hanged a notice, declaring closer of the factory, without paying their wages for April.

Banani police station in-charge Kazi Shahan Haque said that the agitated workers suspended traffic movement until law enforcers managed them to leave the road.

Commuters on the road and other adjacent roads suffered huge traffic jam due to the blockade.

The factory managing director Md Ashraf Ali Khan neither received phone calls nor responded message while he was approached for comment.
