Calling BNP a commercial party, a union-level leader resigned after taking a bath with milk in Agailjhara upazila of Barishal district on Friday.
A video of his bath went viral on social media shortly afterwards.
KM Rezaul Faiz Reza was convenor of Baghda union unit of BNP and he contested for the post of chairman in local Union Parishad election with the party symbol.听
Before taking the bath, Reza and Lavlu Bhatti, joint convener of the same union BNP, held a press conference at Agailjhara Press Club regarding their resignation.
They announced their resignation from the party's posts and primary membership posts at the conference.
While bathing Reza said, 鈥業 was with a party for many years. It's a business party. It isn鈥檛 a political party. Those who do BNP do politics for business, ownself and individuals. So I freed myself from the party.鈥�
Later, he took a bath with milk for complete purity.
Earlier, on August 26 last year, upazila BNP鈥檚 Convenor Kabir Hossain Talukder and Member Secretary Molla Bashir Ahmed Panna approved a 52-member convening committee with KM Rezaul Foyez Reza and Lavlu Bhatti as convenor and joint convenor respectively.
