About 110 child artists from Cumilla have displayed their artworks alongside eighty-two artists from across the country at a group exhibition under way at the District Shilpakala Academy, Cumilla.

The ten-day art exhibition titled ‘Cumilla Art Exhibition’ has been jointly organised by Pothikrith Cumilla Charushilpi Porishod and the District Shilpakala Academy, Cumilla.


The exhibition,  curated by Chandan Debroy, features 400 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, calligraphy works, prints and traditional rickshaw paintings.

Artist Mohammed Samiul Alam’s sculpture titled ‘Biswa Santi Biplaba Dhwangsa’ shows humans destroying the world with different weapons and dead bodies of people preserved inside a laboratory.

Sajid Rahman Shurid’s pencil sketch titled ‘Still Life’ shows the hands of an old man.

Joytirmoye Chandra’s craft titled ‘Sutakabye Janak’ shows a portrait of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Rickshaw painter SA Noor Ali’s painting titled ‘Haati’ shows two elephants decorated with ornaments fighting with each other.

The organisers of the exhibition also handed over awards at the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition on April 28. The jury comprised renowned artists Uttam Guha and Najma Akther.

Golam Mustafa, Anik Banik, Mohammed Samiul Alam, Sajid Rahman Shurid, Joytirmoye Chandra, Mohammad Sakibul, Achiya Khatun, Nafis Sadat, Devdash Shikdar, Karidul Islam, Fahima Jahan Nira, Golam Mostofa and SA Nur Ali received awards for their artworks.

‘We are happy to organise this event in Cumilla. Such exhibitions are usually organised in Dhaka and Chattogram. We need a gallery for showcasing artworks in Cumilla. We thank everyone who has participated in this exhibition,’ said Ayaj Mabud, district cultural officer of the BSA.
