Prime Bank Cricket Club pacer Rejaur Rahman Raja created history on Monday as he picked up eight wickets for 23 runs to sink Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and guide his team to a massive 199-run win in their final Dhaka Premier League 2024 match in Fatullah, Narayanganj.
Raja鈥檚 8-23 is the best bowling figure in List A cricket in the history of Bangladesh, breaking the record of Yeasin Arafat鈥檚 8-40 in 2017.
This win saw Prime Bank finish the season third with 20 points from 16 games, behind champions Abahani Limited and runners-up Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Building on skipper Zakir Hasan鈥檚 85 and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim鈥檚 78, Prime Bank put 270 on board.
Hasan Mahmud听then听picked up the first two Sk Jamal wickets before the Raja show began.
With his first ball, he got Fazle Mahmud caught behind before getting Shakib Al Hasan to get out on a golden duck in the final ball of that over.
In his second over, Raja got Nurul Hasan Sohan before castling Taibur Rahman鈥檚 stumps, and he picked up his fifth wicket with the final ball of his third over as he bowled Ripon Mondol.
After a wicketless fourth over, Raja got one each in his next three overs to bowl Sk Jamal out for just 71, the joint-lowest team total in this year鈥檚 DPL.
Raja, who is yet to debut for Bangladesh despite being in the squad for several series, was expectedly named Player of the Match.
Champions Abahani ended the season with a perfect record as they bagged their 16th win in 16 games听beating听Shinepukur Cricket Club by four wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
Batting first, Amite Hasan鈥檚 77 and Khalid Hasan鈥檚 58 saw Shinepukur post 234-8, which Abahani chased down comfortably courtesy of Anamul Haque鈥檚 unbeaten 110.
In the other match of the day, Mohammedan beat Gazi Group Cricketers by 53 runs in a low-scoring affair at BKSP to secure second place.
