Police recovered the body of a youth hanging from a tree on the roadside near Jahangirnagar University’s Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Hall on Monday morning.

The deceased was Jisan Ahmed, 24, son of JU Al-Beruni Hall employee Nazrul Islam. He was a native of Sherpur.

Nazrul Islam’s family used to live in Kalabagan area adjacent to the campus, and Jisan used to take care of a family farm.

Jisan’s elder brother Waliullah said that Jisan was locked into an altercation with his mother on Sunday evening over caring for their farm and left the house at about 11:00pm.

JU chief security officer Sudipta Shaheen said that resident students found Jisan’s body hanging from the tree with a rope around his neck at about 7:00am on Monday.

Later, a team from the Ashulia police station went to the spot and recovered the body at about 7:30am, sub-inspector GM Aslam said.

The police suspected that it was a suicide.

The police officer said, ‘The family of the deceased requested not to undergo any post-mortem examination, and we are on the way to hand over the body to the family.’

The process of filing a case over the incident was underway, added the police official.
