
An Indian citizen, Shafiuddin, 50, has been arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh for illegally entering Bangladesh through the Patgram border of Lalmonirhat.
Assistant sub-inspector of Patgram police station Shahidul Islam confirmed to the media on Tuesday that the Indian citizen arrested by the BGB was sent to court.
Later, the court sent him to jail, the SI added.
Earlier on Monday night, the Indian national was arrested near main pillar number 871 of Tepurgari in Kalirhat on the border.
Shafiuddin is the son of deceased Zahir Uddin Danta of village 165 Osul Pukuri of the Mekhligonj police station of the Cooch Behar district in India.
BGB officials said that Shafiuddin, an Indian citizen, entered Tepurgari Uttarpara village of Kalirhat in Patgram union of the upazila, about 50 yards inside from the sub pillar 6 of Tepurgari at Kalirhat on the Patgram border.
At that time, members of the Kalirhat camp patrol team of 61 BGB Battalion detained him, the officials added.
Officer-in-charge of Patgram police station Abu Saeed Chowdhury said that the BGB handed over Indian citizen Shafiuddin to Patgram police station after filing a case with the police station under Section 4 of the Control of Entry Act 1952.
