
At least one more person died of dengue in the past 24 hours till Wednesday morning at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal, taking the official dengue death toll to 28 so far across the country this year.
Of the deceased, 14 died in January, three in February, five in March, two in April and four in the first eight days of May, according to Directorate General of Health Services data.聽
In the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Wednesday, at least 22 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country and the number of hospitalisation with the mosquito-borne viral disease rose to 2,360 since January 1 this year, said a press release of the DGHS.
Of the total, the Dhaka city alone accounted for reported 16 deaths and 732 hospitalisations from dengue.
Of the hospitalisation this year, 1,055 were reported in January, 339 in February, 311 in March, 504 in April, and 15 in eight days of May.
A total of 127 dengue patients are now undergoing treatment at public and private health facilities in the country.
Dengue killed 1,705 people and sent 3,21,179 people to hospitals in 2023 alone against 853 deaths and 2,44,246 hospitalisation between 2000 and 2022, the DGHS data showed.
A dengue outbreak was first officially reported in the country in 2000 when 93 people died and 5,551 patients were hospitalised, according to DGHS data.
