
The Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Wednesday expressed concerns over as incidents of violence against girls and women were rising in the streets, indoors and outdoors by the youth gang members and relatives as well.
The BMP said that incidents of violence against women and girls were hampering the ongoing progress of women and girls, and threatening their normal life security, said a press release.
The women rights body condemned the incident of a teacher who was attacked allegedly by a group of youths as he protested stalking of a class six student of his madrassah in Companiganj of Noakhali on May 5.
It also condemned the incident of a schoolgirl being hacked by her second cousin as she rejected his marriage proposal in Chandpur union of Katiadi in Kishoreganj on May 7.
The rights body demanded taking legal action against those involved in the two incidents.
It urged the relevant ministries and administration to take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
The BMP also urged everyone to form a coordinated social movement to prevent violence against women and girls in the country.
