Dance artiste-turned-actress Mondera Chakroborty said that the film ‘Kajol Rekha’ was very special to her as it gave her a new identity.

Mondera made her silver screen debut with Kajol Rekha, directed by two-time National Film Award-winning filmmaker Giasuddin Selim, and played the female protagonist in the film, which was released during the Eid-ul-Fitr.

Mondera said that people started calling her Kajol Rekha after the film was released.

‘I feel overjoyed when people call me Kajol Rekha instead of Mondera Chakroborty. The film has given me a new identity,’ said the actress, who also talked about her journey in the cultural sector.

‘I became involved in cultural activities from my childhood. I learnt dancing from an early age. In 2012, I participated in Channel i’s talent hunt competition for dancers and became the runner-up,’ added Mondera.

‘Playing the character of Kajol Rekha was a great learning experience for me. I am fortunate because a filmmaker like Giasuddin Selim considered me capable of depicting the character in the film,’ mentioned the actress.

She said that she learnt a lot while shooting the film.

‘After the film’s shooting began, I was very nervous and anxious for the first few days because I was the most junior artiste in the team. However, the team became my family gradually,’ said Mondera.

She said that after the shooting concluded, Giasuddin Selim complimented her.

‘He told me “You have learnt acting”. I will never forget this,’ she said.

‘I feel honoured because my debut film was directed by Giasuddin Selim and the film received a huge response from film

lovers,’ said Mondera, adding that she would be selective when it came to choosing films in the future.

‘I am receiving many offers for acting in films. But, I want to be selective about choosing a film. I will choose a film if I like the story, character, director and others,’ said the actress.

Her next film might hit cinemas during Eid-ul-Azha.

‘The film titled “Neel Chakra”, directed by Mithu Khan, might be released during Eid-ul-Azha. The audience will see me acting opposite popular actor Arifin Shuvoo in the film. I hope film lovers will watch it and give me positive feedback,’ ended Mondera.
