Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday that the power that the United States has in the Middle East has narrowed now.
‘The ability of those [the United States] to show their power has narrowed in the Middle East. There is no reason to think that would be widespread here. Quader said this at a press conference at the Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi.
When asked about the forthcoming visit of US assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs Donald Lu to Bangladesh, Quader said they were unaware of the reason behind his visit.
‘He [Donald Lu] is coming; we don’t know what their intentions are, but we want to say that someone is coming to our country and supporting BNP here again,’ he said.
He also said that his government is now an elected government by the people’s vote, and there is no reason to fear anyone.
In response to the question regarding the AL allegation of the West’s attempted interference ahead of the January 7 general election, Quader said, ‘The letter that President Joe Biden sent to our prime minister after the elections reflects America’s view.’
Quader said that the main opposition, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, would not find an escape route if it started anarchy in the name of a movement.
The BNP had said before October 28, 2023, that AL would not find a route to flee, and later it was seen that the BNP fled.
‘We have no record of escape. BNP will have to flee if anarchy is started in the name of movement,’ he said.
