The announcement of the Bangladesh squad for the ICC T20 World 2024 was delayed by a day as the Bangladesh Cricket Board is waiting for an update from specialist physicians regarding °Õ²¹²õ°ì¾±²ÔÌý´¡³ó³¾±ð»å’s scan report.

BCB was due to announce the Tigers’ World Cup squad on Monday; however, they rescheduled it for today at 12:30pm.

BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus informed ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that after getting Taskin’s scan report on Monday morning, their medical unit has been in communication with specialist physicians from both home and overseas as the speedster was diagnosed with a fracture in his rib, which has put his participation in the forthcoming World Cup in danger.

‘We have been communicating with multiple specialists after getting the scan report where a fracture was found in his rib. That is why we couldn’t announce the squad today. I would also like to inform that besides the specialists in the country, we have also sent the report to specialists in USA,’ he told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

‘In fact, we are trying our best to get him to the World Cup. At the same time, you should also keep in mind that we can’t put his career in danger. If we find that the injury is severe, we won’t allow him to feature in the global event because his career always comes first.’

Taskin, despite his several struggles with injuries, was allowed to play in the Dhaka Premier League – a 50-over competition – in April, when the country went through a heatwave which resulted in extremely hot conditions. He also played four matches of the five-match Zimbabwe series, and could not play the last game only because of his injury.

‘Perhaps you haven’t noticed that we rested Taskin in the last couple of games in the DPL. Not just that, if he would opt to skip the matches against Zimbabwe, we wouldn’t have forced him to play. It was he who wanted to play the bulk of the games,’ Jalal explained.

‘We rested Shoriful Islam and Mistafizur Rahman, so why would we force Taskin? He wanted to play in the series.’

Taskin Ahmed, who was the player of the series against Zimbabwe courtesy of his eight wickets, suffered the strain when he dived to save a boundary in the fourth tie, which eventually ruled him out of the fifth and last match.

A BCB source confirmed that if the injury rules Taskin out of the showpiece event, they will call up Hasan Mahmud.

‘Hasan Mahmud has always been in our World Cup plans,› the source told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
