The authorities of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur accused the relatives of the dead patients for pushing lift to dysfunction and death of the cardiac patient on Sunday.

In an official letter to the Directorate General of Health Services, the hospital authority came up with the allegation against the relatives of the patient who complained against the hospital management not to take proper measure to rescue them from the stuck lift.


The letter, signed by acting director of the hospital Md Jahangir Alam and public works executive engineer (E/M Division-10) Abdul Halim, primarily confirmed that the problem created for the misconduct of the relatives while the Movi Brand lift and hospital staffers were innocent.

For functioning Automatic Rescue Device, it needed one minute but the door safety of the lift did not function because of pushing the doors of the lift by the relatives of the patient, the letter said, adding that the lift stuck due to load shading, the letter said.

‘Later, the lift operator manually landed the lift on a floor but the relatives of the patients came out with patient earlier,’ it read.

The hospital authority claimed that it took 10 to 12 minutes not 45 minutes as reported in different media.

On Sunday, a cardiac patient Momtaz Begum died in the hospital after getting stuck in a hospital lift.

However, the hospital authority and district administration formed separate probe committee to investigate the incident.

Earlier on May 4, another patient Md Zillur Rahman of the hospital died falling through the gap of the floor and walls on the 11th floor of the hospital building.
