
A man, who was injured in a post-polls attack allegedly by the supporters of a rival group in Sirajganj鈥檚 Belkuchi upazila on May 8, succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
The deceased was Abdul Alim, 50, of Kamarpara village of Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj.
He was the uncle of defeated chairman candidate Badiuzzaman Fakir.
Following the incident, police arrested Chan Mia, his son Rasel, and his elder brother Abul Hossain.
They were supporters of current UP chairman Aminul Islam Sarkar.
Belkuchi police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Anisur Rahman said that Abdul Alim was a supporter of Badiuzzaman Fakir, one of the chairman candidates with the motorcycle symbol of the Belkuchi upazila parishad election.
After winning on Wednesday, about 10 to 12 people attacked Abdul Alim and severely beat him up.
Local people alleged that the attackers were UP chairman Aminul Islam Sarkar鈥檚 supporters.
Later, locals rescued the injured and took him to Belkuchi Upazila Health Complex, where the physicians referred him to Khawaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He died on the way to the DMCH at about 5:00am on Monday, according to the police official.
UP chairman Aminul Islam Sarkar said that he was not aware of the incident and he would comment after getting information.
