Bashundhara Kings stormed into the final of the Federation Cup with a 3-0 win over 12-time champions and last year’s runners-up Abahani Limited, in the second semi-final in Gopalganj on Tuesday.

Kings, who have already claimed the Independence Cup and Bangladesh Premier League titles this season, will now be looking to complete their maiden treble with a win over last edition’s champions, Mohammedan Sporting Club, in the final in Mymensingh on May 22.

Eleven-time champions Mohammedan reached the final after a 2-1 win over Police Football Club in the first semi-final in Munshiganj on May 7.

The two teams have previously met three times this season, once in the Independence Cup final, where Kings defeated Mohammedan 2-1, and twice in the BPL, with both teams winning one match each.

Kings, who set a new milestone in the country’s domestic football by winning the record fifth consecutive BPL title recently, went ahead in the 21st minute with a goal from Brazilian forward Robson Azevedo.

Robson placed the ball into the net past Abahnai goalkeeper Sahidul Alam Sohel after receiving a pass from forward Rakib Hossain.

Abahani, however, tried to stage a fight back in the first half but failed to do so. Taking this opportunity, Kings extended their lead through forward Dorielton Gomes, as the Brazilian scored his team’s second with a header after getting a pass from Rakib in the 71st minute.

Super-sub Mohammad Ibrahim completed the rout with a tap in deep into stoppage time of the game.
