The Election Commission on Wednesday cancelled the candidature of Gazipur鈥檚 Sreepur upazila parishad chairman candidate Jamil Hasan for violating the electoral code of conduct.

The EC took this decision after a hearing at the Election Commission Secretariat on the day, said EC additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath.

After the hearing, Ashok told reporters that Jamil鈥檚 candidature was cancelled by the Election Commission for violating the code of conduct as the commission was not satisfied with his explanation.

Jamil is elder brother of Rumana Ali Tusi, the state minister for primary and mass education, and joint secretary of the district unit Awami League.

According to EC, Jamil earlier was served show-cause notice for at least thrice for the violation of electoral code of conduct.

But he did not stop violating the polls code during electioneering, Ashok said.聽聽
