
The High Court on Wednesday asked Rangpur divisional commissioner Md Zakir Hossain to explain his failure to evict 812 illegally made brickfields as the court directed him to do so.
The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil also asked the commissioner to submit a report to the court by May 29 after shutting down all the illegal brickfields.
The court set May 30 for holding further proceedings of the writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh against the operation of the illegal brickfields in the territory of the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner.聽
On March 4, the court after hearing the HRPB鈥檚 writ petition issued the directive for shutting down of the illegal brickfields.
The bench issued the fresh directive for removal of the illegal brickfields as the commissioner in a report to the court said on Wednesday that only 18 out of 812 illegal brickfields could be removed.
The commissioner鈥檚 report mentioned that out of the 812 illegal brickfields, 155 in Gaibandha, 86 in Kurigram, 175 in Dinajpur and 24 in Panchagarh are still operating in violation of the High Court embargo.
The report informed the court that only 18 illegal brickfields of the four districts could be removed.
HRPB lawyer Manzill Murshid told the court that the operation of the illegal brickfields was a clear violation of the court鈥檚 order.
