
The police on Thursday arrested a transport worker on allegation of attempting to sexually harass a female student of Jahangirnagar University on a moving bus on her way to the university campus on May 14.
The arrested is Abir Hossain, 20, from the Narayanganj district. The other two employees of Moumita Paribahan were on the run.聽
The driver鈥檚 assistant, Abir, was arrested at his residence in Narayanganj, said Dhaka district additional superintendent of the police, Mohammad Abdullahel Kafi.
He said that all passengers were asked to get off the Chandra-bound bus in the Radio Colony area at Savar.
At that moment, the victim student requested the assistant to give her money back as the assistant did not return her change and she got into an altercation with him, the police official said, adding that when she tried to exit the bus, Abir attempted to prevent her from leaving.
With no other option, the student jumped off the moving bus. Later, the student lodged a complaint with the university administration.
The police arrested the alleged employee following a preliminary investigation, he added.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, meanwhile, in a statement on Thursday demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the incident.
