The number of active mobile internet connections in the country continued to increase for the second consecutive month in March by 38 lakh to reach 12.12 crore connections, according to the latest data published by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.

The BTRC data showed that the total number of active mobile internet users in February was 11.74 crore.


Before February, the total number of active mobile internet connections gradually decreased for six months from August 2023 to January 2024.

The latest BTRC data also showed that the total number of active mobile users in the country increased, rising by 9 lakh to reach 19.22 crore in March compared with that of 19.13 crore in February.

The total number of active mobile users in the country has been rising steadily from January 2023 to March 2024, where the number was 18.08 crore in January 2023.

According to the data, the number of broadband internet connections too increased in March compared with that in the previous month.

The number of total broadband connections in the country rose by 6 lakh in March, reaching 1.34 crore.

Before March, the total number of broadband connections in the country stood fixed at 1.28 crore in the previous three months.

The last time the number of broadband connections increased was in December 2023 when it rose by 0.04 crore, thus reaching the 1.28 crore figure. Before December, the broadband connections maintained a steady figure of 1.24 crore from September to November of 2023.

According to the BTRC data, telecom operators Grameenphone, Banglalink and Teletalk saw increase in their connections in March while Robi witnessed a decrease.

In March, Robi Axiata lost about 3,00,000 active mobile connections, lowering the number down to 5.80 crore compared with that of 5.83 crore in February.

Banglalink experienced a rise in March, gaining about 5,00,000 in active connections, raising the number to 4.44 crore.

Grameenphone recorded a rise, according to the BTRC data, by gaining about 7,00,000 connections, letting the number reach 8.32 crore in March compared with that of 8.25 crore in February.

State-owned telecom operator Teletalk also experienced a slight growth in its active connections as it gained about 30,000 connections in March.
