
The Election Commission sent a letter to lawmaker Anwar Hossain Khan of Lakshmipur-1 constituency asking him not to participate in the upazila parishad election campaign.
Additional district magistrate Priyanka Dutta, also a returning officer of the Lakshmipur district election office, sent the letter to Anwar Khan on Friday following a complaint.
According to allegations, the local lawmaker participated in the election campaign in support of chairman candidate Delwar Hossain Dewan Bacchu in Ramganj upazila parishad elections scheduled for May 21.
The returning officer said, ‘On the basis of the complaint, the lawmaker has been requested by a letter not to participate in any kind of election campaign for any candidate with a view to ensuring a fair election.’
Earlier, the chairman candidate of the same upazila, Md Imtiyaj Arafat submitted a complaint to the district election office against the lawmaker over participating in the election campaign and violating the code of conduct.
According to the complaint, the lawmaker is calling some public representatives and political party leaders in Ramganj over the phone to seek votes for chairman candidate Delwar Hossain, also the joint general secretary of the Ramganj Upazila Awami League.
