Left-leaning leaders on Sunday at a discussion in Dhaka said that the movement for the establishment of a democratic and non-sectarian Bangladesh would continue.

The country has not achieved democratic and non-sectarian rule in the country although a pro-liberation force has been in power for a long time, they said.


The committee to observe the 81st birthday of Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon organised the programme on the premises of the party central office on Topkhana Road where convener of the committee, Anisur Rahman Mollick, chaired.

Menon turned 81 on Saturday. 

Rashed Khan Menon said that it was unfortunate that they had failed to ensure good governance in the country.

‘We must continue our movement against imperialism and for establishing good governance in the country,’ Menon said, adding, ‘For this we must stop corruption of the government and establish rights of the common people.’ 

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod president Hasanul Haq Inu said that imperialism was trying to install the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance in power.

‘But we must continue our movements to keep pro liberation force in power,’ Inu said.

Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua said that it was unfortunate that sill we could not establish a democratic and non-sectarian Bangladesh.

Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha said that leaders and activists of the Awami League were involved in mass corruption which tarnished the image of the Awami League government.

Oikya NAP acting president ASMS Sabur, Bangladesh JSD central leader Mushtaq Husain, member secretary of the birthday celebration committee, Abul Hossain, Workers Party central leader Mostafa Alamgir Ratan spoke at the discussion.

The discussion was followed by giving bouquets to Rashed Khan Menon.

The programme was ended with a cultural function.
