Activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly attacked two former leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, including its former president Kazi Rawnakul Islam Shrabon, on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred in front of the gate of the Shilpakala Academy in the capital's Segun Bagicha around 9:15 pm.
The other injured individual is former JCD vice president Miah Mohammed Jalak.
Both were given first aid at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Mia Mohammad Jalak stated that around 15-20 people attacked Shrabon with local weapons while they were having tea in front of the Shilpakala Academy.
The attackers also beat Jalak with an iron pipe and a hammer when he tried to protect Shrabon.
Shrabon claimed, ‘A group of BCL activists all of a sudden attacked me with Joy Bangla slogans.’
The immediate past JCD president Shrabon is also a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party National Executive Committee.
When contacted, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost, said he was not aware of the admission of the two JCD leaders at DMCH.
However, hospital officials confirmed that Jalak and Shrabon sought treatment there.
