Ashik Chowdhury, a professional skydiver, is all set to jump from 41,000 feet holding aloft the Bangladesh flag in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.

At a press conference titled ‘The highest ever skydive with a flag’ held at Paltan Tower in the capital on Tuesday, Ashik said that if the weather conditions permitted, the jumping event would be held on May 25 in the Memphis city in the United States.

He said that no one from Bangladesh or anywhere else in the world had ever attempted a jump with a flag from such an altitude.

Ashik, a 40-year-old career banker, has so far completed 50 jumps since 2012.

Born and brought up in Jashore, his pilot father sowed the seeds of an adventurous mentality in him during his childhood.

‘I hope I will be able to put Bangladesh on the stratosphere,’ said Ashik.

Abul Kalam Azad, head of brand marketing and corporate affairs division of United Commercial Bank PLC, the bank sponsoring the jumping event, handed over the Bangladeshi flag to Ashik Chowdhury at the press conference.
