The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party said on Thursday that the people of the country were raging against the Awami League government for its wrongdoing.

‘People are fed up with the violent behaviour and cruel misrule of the anti-people government. And so the people are raging against the illegal Awami government,’ BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement.

The BNP secretary general made the statement, expressing concerns over the denial of bail and the sending of Dhaka Metropolitan north unit BNP member Rezaur Rahman Fahim to jail.

He said that the government’s dream of enjoying illegal power for a long period of time by oppressing the people and opposition leaders and activists would never be fulfilled.

‘The Awami League has become more reckless and tyrannical by seizing power through farce elections on January 7 due to a lack of public support,’ he said.

He alleged that the ruling party had started severe repression against the leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated bodies in order to hold on to state power through authoritarian rule.

‘Sentencing in false cases by the court, denying bail, and sending opposition leaders and activists to jail have now become the main goals of the illegal Awami League government,’ he said.
