Professor Saiful Islam joined American International University-Bangladesh as vice-chancellor on Thursday after being appointed by the Bangladesh president.
He previously served as the vice-chancellor of different universities, including Dhaka International University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
Saiful Islam obtained BScEngg in electrical engineering in 1975 and MScEngg in electrical engineering in 1977 from BUET. He did his PhD in EE from Cambridge University, UK in 1986. He started his career as a lecturer of electrical engineering at BUET in 1975 and became a professor of electrical and electronic engineering department in 1988.
Saiful Islam worked as the head of electrical and electronic engineering department of BUET from 1991 to 1993聽and served as the dean of the electrical and electronic engineering faculty from 1995 to 1997.
He also served as the head of the computer science and engineering department of BUET in 1996.
