
The country鈥檚 top umpires failed to earn a post in the umpire鈥檚 association as they lost in the polls held at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, who聽was recently added聽to the ICC elite panel of umpires, contested for the post of General Secretary, while two other international umpires, Gazi Sohel and Tanvir Ahmed, ran for the post of Joint Secretary.
However, Saikat lost to Advocate Mojibur Rahman, while Sohel and Tanvir lost to Humayun Kabir Ahmed and Abdullah Al Matin.
According to a member of the umpire鈥檚 association who was actively involved in the polls, Saikat, who聽already聽left Dhaka for USA to officiate in the ICC T20 World Cup opener,聽obtained聽71 votes, while聽Mojibur, who was elected general secretary, got 114 votes.
Kazi Mohammad Yusa Mishu was elected聽as the聽president of the new committee, while Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahman Mosabbir, Satya Ranjan Basak, Md. Monjur Rahman Monju, and Amiruzzaman Babu聽were elected聽as vice-presidents.
