Defending champions Bangladesh registered their second straight victory in the fourth edition of the Bangabandhu Cup 2024 International Kabaddi Tournament beating Malaysia by 73-22 points with six creditable lonas held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium on Monday.
Bangladesh led the first half by 37-4 points. The confidence of Arduzzaman Munshi and Co was visible from the very beginning as the hosts kept the scoreboard ticking with regular raids and catches.
Bangladesh registered three lonas in the first and the rest in the second half. However, Malaysia suffered their second straight defeat in the tournament after losing the first match by 67-30 points against Nepal.
The host team’s right raider Al-Amin won the man of the match award for his impressive performance.
‘It’s not a big deal that I got the best player award rather it’s big for me that the team won the match finally ... Of course, we are delighted to get the second win in a row. Malaysia is a tough opponent but we played well in the match and took points from them. I want to maintain this consistency throughout the tournament,’ Al-Amin said after the match.
‘I’m focused on the team-work and I’m happy with the team’s success, we have more challenges ahead and we believe that we will reach our goal. Bangladesh will prove their superiority in the field with teamwork,’ said Al Amin, who is hailed from Barisal district and also member of Border Guard Bangladesh.
Bangladesh will play their third match in the tournament against Indonesia on May 29.
