
Three people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in front of Jhumjhumpur BGB office under Sadar upazila of Jashore district on Monday.
The deceased were Hashem Ali, 40, son of Asan Ali, resident of Nilakantapur village of Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district, bus supervisor Toufiqur Rahman, 24, son of Naseeruddin, resident of Jurain Shyampur area of Dhaka, and Prafulla Kumar Saha, 60, son of Santosh Kumar Saha, resident of Nilganj Tatipara area of Jashore district town.
The accident occurred when a Satkhira-bound passenger bus of Saint Martin Transport from Chattogram overturned and fell on the roadside in Taraganj area under Sadar upazila around 8:00am in the morning, leaving two people dead on the spot and five others passengers of the bus were injured, officer-in-charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station Abdur Razzak said. The injured were taken to Jashore General Hospital, he said.
Besides, an unidentified elderly pedestrian was killed hit by a covered van in front of Jhumjhumpur BGB office  under Sadar upazila of the district this morning. Legal action will be taken in this connection, the OC added.
In Gaibandha, a worker of a passenger bus was killed in a road accident in Sakoamajhipara area on Gaibandha-Palashbari road Monday morning. The deceased was Sumon Miah, 40, son of Haider Ali, of Chandipur village under Betkapa union in Palashbari upazila of the district.
Local Union Parishad chairman Mostafizur Rahman said victim Sumon was an employee of a passengers’ bus named Orin Travel which moved between Gaibandha and Dhaka.
Officer-in-charge of Palashbari Thana Md. Azmiruzzaman said an initiative has been taken to recover the bus from the ditch. The body was handed over to his relatives.
