
Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology organised a seminar titled ‘Multi-hazard Resilient and Equitable Tomorrow’s Cities’ was held under the initiative of Tomorrow’s Cities.
CUET vice-chancellor Mohammad Rafiqul Alam inaugurated the ceremony in the academic council room of the university, said a press release.
The special guests were CUET pro-vice-chancellor Professor Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Faculty of Architecture and Planning dean Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, lead professor of Tomorrow’s City’s Work Package-2, Institute of River, Harbour and Environmental Science director Asiful Haque and NSET- Nepal’s deputy executive director Ramesh Guragain, also senior management member of Tomorrow’s Cities.
Civil Engineering Department professor and Tomorrow’s Cities project coordinator Md Bashir Jishan delivered the welcome speech at the programme conducted by Research Assistant Tanveer Mahmud.
Md Bashir Jisan, Tanveer Mahmd and Md Sohail Rana, research lecturer, Institute Earthqua Engineering and Research, CUET presented technical talk on the work of Tomorrow’s Cities.
It should be noted that Tomorrow’s Cities research project is being conducted jointly by Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University, Chittagong Development Authority and Cox’s Bazar Development Authority along with Edinburgh University, UK.Â
In the seminar, a possible urban development plan of Jaliapalong of Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar and Bairag union of Anwara of Chittagong were presented. In this case, the risks and potential financial and social losses of the unions due to earthquakes, cyclones, floods, fires, and landslides have been assessed.
