Road communications between Sajek in Rangamati and Khagrachari’s Dighinala remained suspended for eight hours on Tuesday due to landslides, triggered by heavy overnight rain, on the Sajek-Dighinala road in Rangamati’s Baghaichari upazila.

At least 100 tourists were stuck due to the landslides.

Baghaichari upazila chairman Sudarshan Chakma told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the communication snapped at about 8:00am due to the landslides triggered by heavy rainfall.

The damaged road was restored by 4:00pm with the help of the local administration and local people, said Shirin Akhter, Baghaichari upazila nirbahi officer.

She said that the upazila was hit by landslides and low-lying areas flooded due to excessive rainfall on Monday night.

She said, ‘Road communication was closed on Marishya-Dighinala road since morning due to landslides at 10 places at Baghaichari upazila.’

She said that heavy rains also caused flooding in Sajek’s Machalong and Baghaihat areas.

No casualty was reported in the incident, but many vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road, she added.
