International Maritime Organisation secretary general Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Wednesday evening.

During his visit, Dominguez Velasco will pay homage to Bangladesh鈥檚 founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait at Dhanmondi-32 in Dhaka on May 30, said a press release of the shipping ministry.


On the same day, he will call on prime minister Sheikh Hasina, industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun and state minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury. Later, he will give a speech to the officials of the foreign ministry.

In the afternoon on that day, Dominguez Velasco will visit the Department of Shipping. He will be apprised of the Establishment of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System and Integrated Maritime Navigation System NS Project there.

On May 31, he will visit the activities of Chattogram port. There, he will be briefed on Vessel Traffic Management Information System, Maheshkhali LNG Terminal, Matarbari Deep Sea Port, Single Buoy Mooring and other ports.

IMO secretary general will also visit the ship recycling yard in Chattogram in the afternoon.

On June 1, he will visit Chattogram Marine Academy where he will be briefed about the maritime education system in Bangladesh.

Cadets of Chattogram Marine Academy, Marine Fisheries Academy and National Maritime Institute will give a guard of honor to him at Chattogram Marine Academy parade ground.

The IMO secretary general will be accorded a reception by the graduates of World Maritime University and International Maritime Law Institute.

A cultural function will also be arranged in honor of him on that evening in Dhaka.

Dominguez Velasco will leave Dhaka for the United Kingdom in the morning on June 2.
