
Chattogram city dwellers continued to suffer on Tuesday due to water stagnation caused by Monday鈥檚 heavy rainfall triggered by cyclone Remal that submerged most areas in the port city.
Chawkbazar areas are still under water, the Chattogram City Corporation officials said, claiming that the Chattogram Development Authority is constructing a road under the water stagnation project.
MH Mosaddek, forecasting officer on duty of the met office at Patenga said that they recorded 117.4 millimetres of rainfall in last 24 hours ending at 3:00pm on Tuesday.
Towhidul Islam, chief executive officer of the Chattogram City Corporation, noted that certain areas, including Chawkbazar and Bahaddarhat, experienced more severe water stagnation on Monday but today water was released quickly.
Towhidul also said that the alleys remained under water and garbage was seen floating on it, making life miserable for people, especially the office going people suffered the most.聽聽
Shoibe Ahmed, a resident of the Chawkbazar area and an employee of a ready-made garment factory in Export Processing Zone told 抖阴精品 that he had to fold his trouser and carry his shoes in hands during heavy rainfall as water remained stagnant in the alleys.
The muddy water with polybags gathered on the road worsened the situation still further, he added.聽
Meanwhile, on Monday night, the Kotwali police recovered a body from the Chaktai canal.
The victim is Azizul Hakim, a second-year student of Islamia College.
The police said that Azizul fell into the canal on Monday afternoon and local people tried to save him, but due to a strong current the body was not found.
The body of another child named Mizan, 12, was also recovered from a drain at Chandgao on Tuesday afternoon.
Mizan remained missing since Sunday.聽聽聽聽
Police officials of Chandgao police station said that Mizan had been missing since Sunday as he was fallen into a drain after being electrocuted.
When the body floated, local people informed the police and police recovered the body, they said.
On Monday morning, rickshaw puller Saiful Islam, 26, was killed on the spot when the wall of an under-construction building collapsed on him at about 8:00am.
The fire service team recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
