The authorities of Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall of Rajshahi University on Wednesday recommended expelling one leader and two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League from the university and take legal actions against them for their involvement in beating up a hall security guard.
The accused members of the student wing of the ruling Awami League are RU BCL Suhrawardy Hall unit vice-president Atikur Rahman and activists Sunny Hazari and Azizul Haque.
The hall authorities recommended canceling the residency of Atikur Rahman with immediate effect as allegations of beating the hall security guard and a residential student, taking food from the hall canteen without payment, and threatening the hall administration were found to be true.
They also asked the university administration to conduct drives at each of the residential halls with the assistance of police to oust the non-residential students and outsiders, and take legal actions if anyone refused to leave the hall.
The hall authorities sought the university administration鈥檚 immediate and effective assistance whenever they take action against any student leader or anyone who illegally allot seat for any non-residential student and outsider in the hall.
They also asked the university authorities to take immediate and effective steps to stop harassment of the students by BCL in the name of 鈥榬oom work鈥�.
Professor Jahangir Alam, provost of Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall, told 抖阴精品 that the probe committee 鈥� formed by the hall administration to investigate the incidents of BCL clashes, beating hall security guard and a residential student, taking foods from the hall鈥檚 canteen on credit, and threatening the hall administration 鈥� submitted its report with eleven recommendations.
鈥榃e have submitted the probe report with the recommendations to the university registrar for further actions鈥�, he added.
On May 12, two BCL factions鈥� clashed at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall, leaving at least nine activists injured.
Later, a group of activists, led by Atikur Rahman, beat Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall security gaurd Monirul Islam on suspicion of providing information about Atik鈥檚 movement to the Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Dal activists.
Atik also then threatened hall provost Professor Jahangir Alam over phone for not cooperating with him over the hall鈥檚 issues.
Atikur refused all the allegations brought against him.
