Five Bangladeshi films are participating in the 25th Rainbow International Film Festival in London.
Inaugurated with Bangladeshi director Himel Ashraf directorial venture 鈥楶riyotoma鈥 in London鈥檚 Genesis Cinema on Sunday, the festival is featuring Bangladeshi films 鈥楴ona Pani鈥, 鈥楩atima鈥, 鈥楯ust a Joke鈥 and 鈥楳untasir鈥.
The directorial venture of Syeda Neegar Banu, 鈥楴ona Pani鈥, a non-linear narrative film, portrays stories of marginalised people living in South-western Bangladesh depicting the inner and external struggles of the protagonists without drawing any conclusion.
The film follows the lives of Romba, Doshpai and Krishna, who live in a small village near Sundarban and depicts the effects of climate change, the impact of cyclone Aila, the trauma of internal migration and displacement, struggles with self-identity and others.
Neegar Banu told 抖阴精品 that after the screening of 鈥楴ona Pani鈥 at different film festivals, including the Jaffna International Cinema Festival in Sri Lanka and at the World Film Festival in Kolkata, India, the Third Eye Asian Film Festival, the film鈥檚 participation in the 25th Rainbow International Film Festival in London made her happy.
鈥楨arlier, I have received acclaim from both home and abroad for the film. 鈥淣ona Pani鈥 will be screened at the festival on Saturday. I hope film lovers will enjoy the film,鈥 said Neegar Banu.
The festival will conclude with Mohammed Moin Uddin Hasan-directed film 鈥楩atima鈥, which bagged award at the 42nd edition of the Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran, Iran.
But Moin Uddin Hasan did not receive the visa to attend the festival from the British high commission in Dhaka.
鈥業 am astonished to not receive the visa. The festival authority had arranged a few events, which I was scheduled to attend,鈥 said Moin Uddin Hasan.
