
Political fellows and admirers of former student leader Shafi Ahmed on Tuesday paid last respects to him as his body was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar.
A team of central leaders of Awami League, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Ganosamhati Andolan, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Democratic Revolutionary Party and leaders of different socio-cultural organisations paid their last respects placing wreath on the body of Shafi Ahmed.
Earlier, the body was kept at in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University, where former and currect student leaders showed their last respects.
After that, the body was kept at Dhaka University Central Mosque, where his namaz-e-janaza was held.
His body was taken in his Netrakona home. He will be buried beside the graveyard of his father and mother on Tuesday night, his family sources said.
Shafi Ahmed, former general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League-JSD, was one of the leading organisers of the anti-Ershad movement in the ‘90s. After that, he joined the Awami League.
He died at his Uttara house in Dhaka on Monday.
