An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League was killed allegedly by his rivals over establishing supremacy at Chandra under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district.
The deceased is Al Amin Hossain, 20, an activist of Jatirpita Bangabandhu Government College unit Chhatra League.
Quoting witnesses, AFM Nasim, OC of Kaliakoir police station, said that a clash ensued between the two factions of the college unit Chhatra League over the function of HSC examiners on the campus.
To settle the issue, the college unit BCL and municipality unit BCL arranged an arbitration at Mokaddam Plaza.
At one stage, a heated argument ensued there, triggering a chase and counter chase.
Later, the rival groups attacked Amin and his associates Quamrul with sharp weapons, leaving them injured.
They were taken to a local hospital where the doctors declared Amin dead.
