The government appointed Md Nayeemul Islam Khan, emeritus editor of the daily Amader Notun Shomoy, as the press secretary to prime minister Sheikh Hasina, with the status of a secretary on a contractual basis.
The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday.
Nayeemul will remain in office for the duration of the prime minister鈥檚 term or subject to her satisfaction, from the date of his joining, said the gazette notification.
The post of the prime minister鈥檚 press secretary has remained vacant since the demise of former press secretary Ihsanul Karim Helal, who passed away on March 10.
