Two Chamka youths were yet to be traced 21 days after their disappearance while catching crabs in the sluice gate area of the River Naf along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border at Whykong of Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar.

On May 16, the two youths namely Chheila Mong Chakma, 30, and Kyamngtho A Tanchangya, 19, went missing.


The victim families believed that an extremist group kidnapped them.

At a press conference at Cox’s Bazar Press Club on Friday night, the families demanded getting back their missing members.

Chinu Marma, wife of the missing Chheila Mong Chakma, said, ‘I do not know where my husband is.’

Chingmala Tanchangya, wife of the missing Kyamngtho A Tanchangya, said that she did not want anything expect her husband’s return.

‘I am facing trouble with my two children in the absence of my husband,’ she added.

Teknaf police officer-in-charge Md Osman Gani said that no one from the victims’ families contacted the police after filing a missing complaint.

‘We will take necessary actions after communicating with the victim families,’ he added.

The Tribal Buddhist Community and Cox’s Bazar District Buddhist Protection Council organised the press conference.
