Bangladesh has been elected the chairperson of the governing council of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific for the next two years.

The country was elected chairperson in the 24th meeting of the governing council of CIRDAP in Bangkok on June 6, 2024, said a press release.


Local government, rural development and cooperatives affairs minister Md Tazul Islam MP presided over the meeting.

The minister is accompanied by Rural Development and Cooperatives Division secretary Mosammat Shahanara Khatun in the meeting.

Earlier, the executive committee meeting was held between Juna 4 and June 5 and the RDCD secretary participated in the meeting and acted as the meeting鈥檚 vice-chair.

In the three days of the meetings, the member countries reviewed the centre鈥檚 performance and discussed how to achieve the center's goal.

The representatives from member countries like Fiji, Iran, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines, Lao PDR, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam participated in the meeting.

Besides representatives from various regional and international organizations like AARDO, ACD, AGNOC, FAO, NCDC, A2I, and NACA provided their comments as observers.

The governing council appointed a new director general for the next four years.
