The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday called prime minister Sheikh Hasin’s remark on the provision of legalisation of undisclosed money ridiculous.

ā€˜Prime Minister yesterday [Friday] said, ā€œIf you go to catch fish, you need to provide feedā€, her remark is ridiculous,’ BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a discussion at the National Press Club.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD organised the discussion to mark the first death anniversary of JSD ideological leader Sirajul Alam Khan.

Addressing a programme in Dhaka on Friday prime minister Sheikh Hasina supported the budget provision for legalising undisclosed money saying that it should be brought to the legal network first.

ā€˜The money should be allowed to come to the appropriate place [the banking channel] first with payment of a nominal amount of money [tax] and then they will have to pay tax regularly… If you go to catch fish, you need to provide feed,’ she said.

Criticising the remark, Fakhrul said, ā€˜We have seen who catches whom. Even more scope was created for looting. How long will you deceive people by saying all these things?’

ā€˜We think that Bangladesh is in a terrible crisis… We are in the hands of a ruling party that is far away from development aimed at people; they are exploiting and oppressing people. They are destroying the future of Bangladesh every moment,’ he said.

Regarding the ongoing movement, Fakhrul said that pro-democratic parties were carrying out the movement simultaneously as they believed that going back to the democratic system was the only way now.

ā€˜We are doing this movement to take back our rights, to take back the right to vote, to guarantee the right to live and the right to speak,’ he said.
