A man was allegedly abducted in broad daylight over a land dispute in Dhaka’s Motijheel area on Sunday.

According to police, there had been a long-standing dispute between Mohiuddin and Md Raju over a piece of land behind the Bangladesh Bank premises in the capital.

In CCTV footage, obtained by the police, a group of people, arriving in a white car in front of a shop, were seen beating a man standing beside the road, dragging him into the car. Another person, holding a pistol, was seen running behind the car.

Motijheel police station officer-in-charge Abul Kalam Azad said that Mohiuddin was constructing a building on the disputed land. Some people had barred the work, and blank shots were fired in the afternoon.

He added that the pistol was initially learned to be licensed to Raju.

‘We detained one person regarding the incident. We are interrogating him,’ said the OC.

He mentioned that police could not immediately identify who was kidnapped.

A case was being filed regarding the incident, added the police official.
