
The fares of three inter-country trains on Bangladesh-India routes are going to be hiked by Tk 70 to Tk 305 from June 15.
The ticket prices are going to increase due to high exchange rate of US dollar, according to the Bangladesh Railway officials. The fares are adjusted time to time with the dollar rate.
The three cross-border trains are Maitree Express, running on Dhaka-Kolkata route, Bandhan Express, which runs on Khulna-Kolkata route, and Mitali Express, running on Dhaka-Siliguri route.
A recent railway notice shows that the ticket price for an air-conditioned seat on Maitree Express increased by Tk聽210 from Tk聽4,900 to Tk聽5,110 and, for an AC chair, the fare increased by Tk 140 from Tk 3,600 to Tk 3,740.
For Bandhan Express journey, the ticket price for an AC seat increased by Tk 105 from Tk 2,950 to Tk 3,055 and for an AC chair increased by Tk 70 from Tk 2,300 to Tk 2,370.
Lastly, on Mitali Express, the ticket price for an AC berth increased by Tk 305 from Tk 6,720 to Tk 7,025, for an AC seat increased by Tk 230 from Tk 4,290 to Tk 4,520 and for an AC chair increased by Tk 155 from Tk 3,860 to Tk 4,015.
The new increased fares would come into effect from June 15, the notice continued.
It also mentioned that the fares would be halved for the children aged maximum five years.
On November 10, 2023, the ticket prices of these three inter-country trains were hiked.
Earlier, the increased fares of the trains came into effect on July 1, 2023, before that on December 1, 2022, and before that on May 24, 2022, as per the railway information.
