Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation organised a discussion on the ‘Role of BSCIC in the Implementation of Vision 2041 in the Progress of Development’ and distributed ‘Karushilpa Award 1430’ at Oasis Hall of Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka on Monday.

Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun was present as chief guest in the event where Zakia Sultana, senior secretary of the Ministry of Industries, was present as special guest.


Mohammad Farasuddin, chief adviser and founding vice-chancellor of East West University and former governor of Bangladesh Bank was the main article presenter.

The function was presided over by BSCIC chairman Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, said a press release.

In his article, Mohammad Farasuddin said, ‘Achieving continuous employment and GDP growth is imperative for industrialisation. Approximately 40/42 lakh CMS entrepreneurs have been identified under the BSCIC and project quality, project formulation, market survey, financing efforts and domestic and international marketing should be facilitated for them in phases.’

Shyamal Dutta, editor, daily Bhorer Kagoj and Md Hafizur Rahman, member, Bangladesh Competition Commission gave their valuable views as discussants on the occasion.

A craftsman has been conferred with Karuratna Award as the best craftsman and 9 craftsmen were awarded Karugaurab Award as skillful craftsman in recognition of their work skills, quality and continuity of tradition.

This year, Gopendra Nath Chakraborty of Jhenaidah received Karuratna Award for shola art as the best artist.

Each winner was given a certificate, crest and a check of Tk 30,000 as the recipients of Karushilpi Award 1430.

At the venue, there was an exhibition of handcrafts where 15 stalls of Jamdani, Shataranji, Shitalpati, jute products, Manipuri saris, leather products, food products, bamboo products and cane products were displayed by BSCIC entrepreneurs.
