Artistes from thirteen national minority communities depicted their tradition and culture by staging dance recitals at a programme held at the National Art Gallery auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.

Artists from national minority communities, including Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Tanchangya, Pankhoya, Khasia, Lusai, Rakhine, Garo, Hajong, Santal, Onrao and Manipuri participated in the festival.


The programme began with a group dance recital by artistes of the national minority communities.

RK Rakhine Group from Cox’s Bazar staged a traditional oil lamp dance recital titled ‘Pradwip Nritya’ praying for the wellbeing of all humans in the world at the programme. It was directed by Chan Chan Wan Rakhine.

Dhaka-based Chakma dance troupe Monoghor Shilpi Gosthi staged a dance recital titled ‘Chakmader Jibandhara’, directed by Shovon Dewan Titu, depicting the everyday life of Chakma community in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.

Tripura Kalyan Foundation from Rangamati staged Hojagiri dance, a traditional performance of the Reang clan, praying for the prosperity of the country and its people.

Manipuri dance troupe Jyotinandan staged a Mandira Nritta directed by Jyoti Sinha.

Santal dance troupe Hihiri Pipiri Shilpi Gosthi from Dinajpur staged its production depicting the Santal rebellion.

Garo dance troupe Ansenga Achik Club staged its dance production titled ‘Life and Nature’ depicting the struggles of Garo women who work in the field carrying their child.

Marma dance troupe Colours of Hill, Tanchangya dance troupe Fukalang Shilighpsthi, Lusai dance troupe Topossha, Khasia dance troupe and others staged dance recitals to the delight of the audience.

Sanjib Drang was present as chief guest and cultural affairs ministry deputy secretary Rajib Kumar Sarkar was present as special guest at the event, which was presided over by the BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky.

Besides, the BSA secretary, Salauddin Ahmed, delivered the welcome speech at the programme.
