A 50-year-old woman was killed and three others were injured when a train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Laskarpur level crossing in Sayestaganj upazila of Habiganj on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Phulbanu, wife of Abdullah Mia of village Uttar Charhamua in Sadar upazila.
Quoting witnesses, police said that the accident occurred at about 1:00pm when the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express from Chattogram smashed the auto-rickshaw while it was passing the level crossing, leaving one passenger of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and two others injured.
However, the gateman of the level crossing claimed that the driver of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw crossed the bamboo-fenced gate violating the signal.
Mir Sabbir Ali, officer-in-charge of Sayestaganj Railway Police, said that the body was sent to the local hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
