Repertory theatre troupe Swapnoghuri premiered its production titled ‘Bodh’ addressing the decline of moral values in society at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
Bodh, the maiden production of Swapnoghuri, has been written and directed by Haroon Rashid.
The play revolves around a fictitious high-ranking government official named Ajmal Haque. He retires after serving the country for 30 years.
His colleagues organise a farewell ceremony for him as he has earned a reputation for working for the welfare of the people with honesty and integrity.
After he returns home from the ceremony, he becomes emotional while reading the congratulatory letters. Besides, he recalls people who approached him during his tenure for various reasons and the play moves forward.
‘Honesty and dishonesty are the most discussed topics nowadays. Being humane is a part of honesty. But often, the existing system becomes a barrier for a person to become humane. The play addresses the importance of honesty and lack of honesty in the society,’ said Haroon Rashid, who is also the leader of Swapnoghuri.
About the troupe, Haroon Rashid said that Swapnoghuri began its journey with the dream of establishing equality and happiness in society.
Haroon Rashid, Silvia Quiah, Tazuddin Tazu, Nikita Nandini, Rajib Saleheen, Jumu Mojumder and Shormymala played different characters in the play.
Besides, Sazu Khadem designed the stage, Thandu Raihan designed stage lighting and Ramiz Razu designed background music, among others.
