
The body of a child was recovered from Chaktai Canal near Karnaphuli River on Wednesday morning after two children went missing there on Tuesday in the port city.
Chattogram Division Fire Service Control Room duty officer said a child鈥檚 body was seen floating in the Chaktai Canal and the rescue team plucked the body early in the morning at around 6:00am.
Aftab Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station said that the child of around 10 years old is yet to be identified.
On Tuesday afternoon around 4:00 pm, two children were floating towards the canal while they were playing with water on the bank.
Local people tried to save the duo but failed due to the strong tide in the canal. Fire service rescue team searched for the two till evening, but in vain.
The canal has a sluice gate set up under the water logging projects by Chattogram Development Authority.
On Sunday morning Police recovered a body of eight years old from an under-construction drain on Saturday evening.
The deceased was Saidul Islam Shahidul, 8, son of Ali Akbar, hailed from Billah Para at Goshail Danga under Bandar police station.
In the past decade, around 13 people died after falling into the open drain and one of the bodies is yet to be found.
According to Chattogram City Corporation, the port city contains a total of one thousand 137 kilometres of canal and drain. Among them, there are open drains at 527 places which are dangerous for city dwellers.
