
A total of Tk 4.82 crore was collected from 44,033 vehicles that crossed the Padma Bridge on Friday amid the travels of holidaymakers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on June 17, and a three-day public holiday will begin on Sunday, followed by two weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday.
Md Ahmed Ali, Padma Bridge manager (toll), said on Saturday that on June 14, in 24 hours, a total of 28,896 vehicles crossed the bridge from the Mawa side, and from the Janjira side, a total of 15,137 vehicles crossed the bridge.
The amount of the total collected toll is Tk 4,82,17,400, he said.
Earlier on April 9 this year, a record amount of money in tolls of Tk 4,89,94,700 was collected from the Padma Bridge in 24 hours amid the travels of holidaymakers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, after the opening of the bridge in June 2022.
Since the opening of the bridge on the Padma River, the highest number of vehicles crossing it in 24 hours has been 51,316 on June 26, 2022, followed by 45,204 on April 9, 2024, and 44,033 on June 14, 2024.
The second highest amount in tolls collected from the vehicles crossing the bridge in 24 hours was on June 14 this year, and the third one was Tk 4,60,53,300 on June 27, 2023.
