A doctor of the surgery department of the 250-bed Bogura Government Muhammad Ali Hospital committed suicide by consuming sleeping pills in Bogura.

The name of the deceased is Dr Romana Sharmin Rumma, 35, assistant registrar of the surgery department. After the post-mortem at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday afternoon, her body was brought to her home at Brindabanpara in Bogura.


According to police, Dr Romama, wife of Sajedul Islam, assistant professor at TMMSS Medical College Hospital in Gaibandha and daughter of late Abdul Kaium of Brindabanpara of Bogura, inadvertently attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills on the night of June 19.

Initially treated at TMMSS Medical College Hospital, she was later transferred to Dhaka鈥檚 Evercare Hospital by air ambulance due to her deteriorating condition.

She died while undergoing treatment there on Thursday evening.

Dr Shafiq Amin Kajal, RMO of Government Mohammad Ali Hospital, described Dr Romama as a dedicated professional with no apparent personal issues that could have hinted at such a tragic outcome.

Saihan Oliullah, officer-in-charge of the Bogura Sadar police station, assured that legal measures would be taken based on the family鈥檚 complaint regarding the incident.
